Secondary Air

I have a 1995 Camaro Z28 throwing a code for the secondary air. The secondary air injection pipe on the passenger side manifold busted right at the threads that connect to the control valve. The only replacement part I can find is on ebay and it has both passenger and driver sides(listed below) but they are asking $400 which seems insane for two pipes. I need the one with the bend in it. Any suggestions where to find the pipe or a way to replace it?

Re: Secondary Air

Do you have DTC 29 - Secondary Air Injection (AIR) Pump Circuit? That is the only code in OBD-1 for that system.

The PCM only monitors the relay circuit that activates the AIR pump. The code is very commonly caused by a blown fuse (#7, under hood box). Replace the fuse, code should go away. Alternatively, the code could also be due to other components in the electrical circuit - faulty relay, faulty wiring. The OBD-1 system does not monitor actual flow in the AIR system like the 96/97 OBD-2 models. It has no way of knowing about a crack in the piping.

Problem is the blown fuse is usually caused by the AIR pump rusting and freezing up, drawing excess current. The problem was so bad there was a factory recall on 1995 and newer LT1's. The changes were very complicated, and I doubt the parts are still availble. If you replace the fuse and it continues to blow, you have three choices - simply unplug the pump before replacing the fuse, and run without secondary air (only operates for a few minutes at startup to help the cat heat up faster, and become active. Or, replace the pump, along with the damaged pipe. Or cobble up a repair to the pipe.

Re: Secondary Air

Just checked the fuse, and it was indeed blown. I appreciate the help! I'm going to change the fuse and see if it blows again
. Thanks!
