Hello Everyone,
New to the site and hoping that someone might know if the spline count on the 700-R4 input shaft for the L69 is 27 or 30 as '84 was a transition year and both were used? I'm going to be accomplishing a torque converter change to a higher stall speed than the stock 1900 as part of a driveline upgrade. I have been unable to ascertain which size is used. Nothing in GM Chevrolet Tehnical Data either. Hoping that with the increased horsepower and torque from the L69 Chevrolet would have improved by changing to 30 for the Z28, T/A, and Monte Carlo.

If you want extra confirmation beyond checking the casting or pulling the converter, sometimes running the VIN can help you verify the original drivetrain spec. It won’t tell you the spline count directly, but it can confirm the exact transmission the car left the factory with. A dodge window sticker by vin like https://carfast.express/en/window_sticker/dodge works the same way, basically a full factory-options snapshot so similar tools for GM can be useful for cross-checking drivetrain data when documentation is missing.
