scanning the f body for codes

So, I got a couple of the idiots lights on ( ABS INOP and AIRBAG).

I want to have the car scanned for codes and do not know the best place to do this. I thought I heard of guys going to AutoZone or something.

I was talking to a mechanic and he would not give me any info on how long it would take...all the guy said was $95.00 / hour. I figure to scan it would be quick.

Who knows the deal on this?

Autozone Cant do a 95. Its 96+ OBDII. 95 has OBDII Connector, but OBDI computer. I dont think that would pull up ABS/Airbag anyways

Need an ABS scanner to pull up problems with the brakes. It's separate from the PCM. And yes, scanning is a QUICK way for a shop to charge you $80 or so.

update with car

ok, had the car to the mechanic and they were supposed to be able to scan it. well, they couldn't.

I have the AIRBAG light on as well as the ABS INOP. They came on at the same time and everything else is good with my car. So, can anyone tell me how to fix this? I would think it would be some dang relay being as they came on at the same time. Someone please help, I am going down to Busch Gardens next week and it would be nice to have an airbag and brakes.

Few scanners can access the EBCM (ABS and/or Traction Control) and airbag control systems. I doubt that local auto parts stores can do much more than the OBD-II PCM scan, which does not include ABS or airbag systems. They need a high end GM scanner (OTC Tech-2) or one of the high end systems from Snap-On, etc. As much as I hate to say it, a GM dealer is the most likely to be able to do the scan.

Did you ever figure out what was wrong? This sounds like the infamous bad ground on the passenger's side shock tower. Try cleaning and tightening the ground post if you haven't done so yet.

It's an old thread, but yeah, it sounds like a low voltage problem. That ground is a good place to start.
