Remote battery life?

How long does the battery in a remote last? Do they quit suddenly? I opened my trunk last night and when I went to open the door it didn't work. Battery voltage is 2.88 open circuit which isn't that far down from 3v.cell must be at least 3-5 years old now. I know I changed it once since 2000 but I don't remember when.

In my daily use remote I've changed the battery once since 1996. The remote I don't use has the original battery. Like watch batteries they work fine until they die unlike alkalines which sort of taper off as they die. HTH

Try reprogramming the remote. There are different frequencies that the remote uses to do different things, and some of them go out. At one time my remote only unlocked the doors, nothing else. If you take it to the dealer they have a tester that can tell you if it is good or not.

It was the cell, a new one fixed it. I had no idea they would quit that suddenly.
