The sensor going bad is a common problem, since you've replaced it a few times something else might be going on. If your coolant level is fine and not experiencing any overheating you can disconnect it and the light will stay off. My car has the crappy 99 and up gauge and no sensor - GM took them off our cars in 00. At least yours has an accurate gauge.

Yeah most people just unplug them and check it yourself periodically.

I'm "THIS" close to disconnecting my sensor. Had the same issue months ago and it went away. My coolant level was fine...car was as cool as always..nothing wrong.

Now the light is back on, and it's been there for a week. I'm CONFIDENT there's nothing wrong with my coolant level, because my car heats up and cools down just the way it always has. But that glaring red light is annoying because it keeps forcing my eye to look at it. I can't help it!

One more week and that's sensor plug is out. I feel like a lab rat...can't stop looking at that red light on the dash...

The best fix for this is to disconnect the sensor. The system is trouble and we know this because GM removed it from all their vehicles eventually.
