Problem with 95 v6 camaro, car accelerates by itself?
Hello, i own a 95 v6 camaro, a while ago my car seemed to what felt like it would accelerate by itself, by this i mean the rpms seem to be running way to high, when in idle it between 3-4k rpms..of course as soon as i shift to drive my car jumps like crazy...when driving the rpms just rocket up making the car seem like its wanting to jump to hyperdrive...i took it once to a work-at-home dude and he fixed it saying it was the comp (charged me $300), 6 months later back to the same...speaking with someone else, they said try adjusting the throttle body screw...the way he explained it to me made sense, but my auto skills are amateur at best...so am here to c if anyone could shed some light into this..your help is greatly appreciated.
I have not scanned for codes, dont have the tools for that, i have not really checked to see if throttle body is closing, ive cleaned it, but have not checked...the dude that got 300 said he fixed the computer, said its settings were off, starting to think they took me..oh well, u live, u learn...also no SES light, unless u mean by that the Check engine light...thats been on forever, since i removed the cat...my car has run with the light on for years
There's no code for a missing cat on your 95. Get it scanned for codes..... that's why the SES (check engine) light is there.... to tell you there's a problem, and the PCM needs to be scanned. Even if its been on "for years" (
), it may have recently added a few more problem codes.

thx for all the responses everyone, in response to the check engine light, let me clarify...the check engine light was not always on, but would always turn on once a nice acceleration was done (which was everytime cause its awesome)...i also want to keep this as cheap as possible, the car has been parked for the past few months cause i will not drive it while the accelration is off... ive pretty much almost gave up on it, till i heard about the throttle body...which seem to me an easy fix...i would like more information in regards to this in relation to my problem... i appreciate all the feedback...
Get it scanned... check for codes; that's the best starting point.
It shouldn't ever idle that high... that would explain why it will jump forward and such.
How did you "clean" your TB? did you disassemble it and clean everything? Shooting from the hip it sounds like your IAC is clogged in the throttle body; you've got a bad return spring on the TB, your TPS is shot, or you've got a sticky throttle cable.
