Re: power window problems
I've noticed that our windows are mostly prone to rattling when they are not down all the way, or up all the way.
When down completely, there is a big rubber bumper in the bottom front of the door that the window rests against hard. It prevents it from rattling when down all the way, but only newer cars got this bumper. I recently installed a 2002 door and noticed it was different than my 1994 door in that matter. If your car is older and not equiped with that bumper, it might help to buy one at the dealer and modify it to work in your door. (cut and glue)
At the top of the door, there are two adjustable brackets padded with felt. They can wear out and become loose.
And finally, the outside window moulding at the top edge of the door has bumpers built into it. On older models they were prone to failure because the bumpers were small and the limited surface area caused them to wear out quickly. The newer model mouldings had a full-length bumper that works much better.
I would recommend replacing the outside door mouldings, and the 2 padded brackets. Also get a couple of those big rubber bumpers that fit in the bottom of the door and mount them twards the front bottom where the window approaches the bottom of the door. I have pictures if you need them.
