Passenger window not rolling down
Passenger window not rolling down
Hey everyone, I have a 97 Z28 which the passenger side window won’t roll down. I replaced the motor back in March or April of this year. I checked the 30 amp fuse that was located in the side panel and it is good. I was seeing if there was any other things I can test. The motor was a Dorman brand. Thank y’all for the replies.
Re: Passenger window not rolling down
Did you try to operate the passenger side window from the switches on both sides of the car?
Have you checked for 12 volts on the “Down” terminal of the switches on both sides of the car when operating the switches?
Did you clean and lube the window tracks when you replaced the motor? If the factory service window binds the thermal breaker inside the motor assembly will trip.
Here's a 1995 schematic.

Might be different from the 1997. But you can download a free copy of the 1996 manual (99.9% same as 1997):

Re: Passenger window not rolling down
And since this isn’t an “engine” problem, let's move it to “General F-Body Tech”….. more traffic there than “Car Audio and Electronics”.
Re: Passenger window not rolling down
I tried both switches neither of them would work the driver side rolls down fine. I lubed the tracks. I will have to check the voltage on the switches this weekend. Thank you for the replies.
Re: Passenger window not rolling down
Update on the passenger window. I was able to bypass the passenger side switch through the driver side by running jumper wire between terminals E and C and between terminals B and D. The window still didn’t go down with just the driver side switch while testing I noticed the lights dim and a faint click can be heard from the passenger side switch. Could this mean it’s the switch or is the motor not engaging? Thank y’all for the replies.
Re: Passenger window not rolling down
Is the click from the passenger side switch, or is it possible it’s from the thermal circuit breaker inside the motor assembly tripping?
And just a heads up….. there’s hardly anyone active on this site any more. And off-hand, I don’t know where you can find more help. I owned my purchased new 1994 Formula for 28 years and never had a problem with the windows, so my knowledge is limited.

Re: Passenger window not rolling down
The sound sounds like it is coming from the switch. I did the voltage test on the dk blue wire and the switch down the voltage is 0.01 to 0.05 while pushing the switch up the voltage went up to 11.59. I also tested the brown wire that goes to the motor and it shows 12 volts when the switch is down and 1.30 when the switch is up. While I was testing the dk blue wire the motor kicked on and sounded strong so I know it’s got to be a loose connection somewhere. Thank y’all for the replies.
Re: Passenger window not rolling down
Update on passenger window. After further diagnosing I found that there was something internally wrong with the window motor. I replaced the motor and the window is working fine now. Thank y’all for the replies to this issue.
