Opitions=junk!

I was just thinking about this. Why are the "options" on these cars some of the ****tiest parts of them?

examplers:

t-tops leak and sqeak, hard tops dont
power window motors go out, cranks dont
power antenas stop getting erections, non powers are on viagra,
cd players stop playing cd's, tape players dont have that option,
cheap leather seats wear out, cloth seems to hold up better,
who the hell needs a "low coolant" light, esp. one thats on all the time?

I guess thats all i could think of in an order without taking time to think.

Has anyone else realized this? I know you have.

Nice

Haven't had any of those problems except the low coolant light and it was easy enough to fix.

Re: Opitions=junk!

My t-tops leak, but they don't squeak. My CD player has a hard time loading and ejecting CDs. I just know one of these times one of my CDs will be in there permanently.

You can always buy another Toyota... Most people take the offset the bad with the good. If not, they buy something else.

T-tops won't leak or squeak if you invest in some subframe connectors and/or a rollbar.
Manual windows go out too, it's just different parts that break.
Want a power antenna that wont wear out (as quick)? Run the power wire to a switch in your dash and flip it on whenever you choose to listen to the radio.
CD players wear out. So do tape decks.
Cloth seats tear too. Leather stays "like new" so long as you keep the leather conditioned.
A low coolant light could also be a bad sensor. Replace it and see what happens.

I guess I got lucky.... T-tops never leak or squeak, power windows still go up and down, my low coolant light has never come on. Not bad for a 12-year old car. Can't speak to the power antenna or CD players since I don't have them.

If you aren't happy with your F-Body, consider a Buick.... I hear senior citizens give them very high quality ratings.

It ain't just F-bods. At the restaurant I manage at, I can't tell you how many folks I see at the window with newer vehicles that obviously have the power windows AWOL on them...or they just like cracking the doors open to get their orders.

Power packages...ugh.

I even sold my factory radio to someone else in these forums. I'll gladly take a B4C radio delete plate and settle for the engine music after I pull off my LT1 drivetrain swap.

I need to figure out how to neuter the antenna as well and blank that off.

Re: Opitions=junk!

To those who commented on me buying another toyota instead, I love my truck and have had nothing go wrong with it in 35k miles, But just bought another trans am saturday. Most of these things arent wrong with my car, just seems to be alot of these cars in general. Some problems, you cant keep from happening by maintaining the car when you dont buy it new such as conditioning the seats though. I admit, i was being kind of a baby last night. I just dont understand why all the opted for things have a tendancy to go bad.

These are all traits that define our beloved f-bodies. Seriously though, all cars have their problems, you could by a whole different make/model and still have problems. All of those things are rather easy repairs.

Re: Opitions=junk!

This site has 58,950 members worldwide. Most of the posts you see here will either be from people who have a problem they need to fix or a modification they would like to share or get help with. As a result, you will see lots of posts about bad window motors, leaky t-tops, etc. That does not mean the cars are any more unreliable than any other car, it just means we have lots of members and our cars are getting older. The 4th gens are going to be from 5 to 14 years old now, they arent exactly spring chickens anymore.

I recall, back in 1991 my buddy bought an average 1975 Camaro. the car was 16 years old, and let me tell you that its condition was nowhere near as nice as what I see an average 14 year old 1993 Camaro. The 4th gen cars are doing a really good job of holding up over the years. Now also consider the fact that F-bodys have a reputation for getting driven hard, neglected and beat on.

T tops never leaked or squeeked
Windows still go up and down fine
don't have a power antenna
I hate the tape player
my cloth seat is ripped
negletful people need a low coolent light so they don't blow up the motor.

Thanks Injuneer, now I'm really screwed up. I own, drive and enjoy both - '94 Z28 and '05 Buick Lacrosse. Just kidding, I also tease with the wife that we cruise around in a grandma's ride. As for problems with the Z I've had my share, but have no plans to ever sell it.
