Oil Pressure Gauge

On my '94 Z28 automatic trans the oil pressure gauge is spiked. This is due to gauge malfunction, not actual oil pressure problems. Has anyone repaired the gauge before and know where the connections and wires for this gauge are?

The wire may have just come off the sensor. On an early 94 the sensor is on the side of the block above the oil filter. On later 94s, it is here.

Be careful when checking. Those oil pressure sensors are fragile. I bumped one on a swap i helped on and it broke off. It was a small bump from my forarm. There like 20 bucks to replace tho so its not the end of the world if you break it.

I checked the wire and it is in fact secure on the sensor. The wire wasn't frayed or broken, so where do I go next? Would I have to take the IP out and check connections on the back of the actual gauge? By the way, my Camaro is an older '94 so the wire and sensor I checked was back where shoebox's hyperlink takes you.

Could still be a faulty sensor. Hook a volt meter from the sensor wire to ground, and see how (and if) the voltage on the line varies from key on/engine off to idle and at higher RPMs. If the voltage on the wire is changing over a fairly wide range, the sensor is probably OK. If the voltage is stable, its probably a faulty sensor.

Or even check the resistance across the sensor. An open circuit in the sensor would = infinite resistance = gauge pinned at max reading.
