Hi,
I probably haven't searched enough, but haven't been able to find the size of the two bolts (grade, length, thread pitch, head type) for the adapter plate when deleting the oil cooler, so you can install the oil filter after removing the cooler and lines.
I've read that some cut the tops off the existing bolts, and others that replace them. I'd prefer to replace them. Still haven't found what's a proper replacement for these two bolts.
You could try sticking a small screwdriver in the hole and see how deep it is, or just thread the bolt in and make sure it snugs before it bottoms out.
Will a small washer fit between the head of the bolt and the adapter without causing an issue?

I'm gonna measure hole depth when I pull it off tomorrow, that's a good idea. I wouldn't think ⅛ of an inch would make a difference, but it might considering the GM bolt is 1.125" (1⅛"). Worst case I use my dremel tool and cut the studs off the existing bolts and re-use them. I'll take some pics so people will know the before and after for a 1994 with this style. I've only seen after photos when reading on this deletion.
So I ended up using the existing bolts, and dremeled the studs off the heads with a small cutting wheel, then reinstalled the adapter. It makes more sense once you get the oil cooler lines/hoses removed from the vehicle.
Oil cooler removed with lines and hoses attached. Also started to cut the heads off the studs on the bolts that mount the adapter plate shown on the left above the bolts.
View of adapter plate still bolted to the block with studded bolts. Cutting the studs off the heads of those two bolts allow them to be reused to mount the adapter plate and not interfere with your oil filter installation.
Adapter plate reinstalled with modified existing hardware bolts.
The stud portion of the bolt removed.
K&N Oil filter installed hand tight after putting some oil on the seal and pouring some in the filter.
Bypass hose installed from radiator to water pump.
Closer image of oil cooler.
This didn't improve my low oil pressure at hot idle problem, but the car idles a bit smoother. I burped the system with the bleeder screws and it seems to be circulating good. The oil cooler has gunk/debris in it. I have to make a closer inspection tomorrow.
Anyhow, hopefully this helps others that delete theirs for whatever reason.
