Odd electrical problem
Odd electrical problem
Hey guys,
Got a problem that is rather odd. I’ve noticed my radio will shut itself on and off mysteriously. At first I though loose wire or short. However, I’ve found when the radio looses power, I’ve also lost power to the power windows. Sometimes when I shut the car off, I have no courtesy power. Can’t use the radio or windows. Other times, radio and windows will not operate while going down the road. I’ve also tried using accessory power by turning the key counter clockwise. The door chimes will beep erratically, not steadily as normal, and neither radio nor windows will operate. Radio is aftermarket but wired into the stock wiring harness with an adaptor.
This is not a consistent problem. Things work normally most of the time. Rather irritating as I’m preparing the car for sale.
Windows and radio are on separate fuses in the fuse box. I’m not sure where to look for this problem.

Re: Odd electrical problem
It sounds like a RAP(retained accessory power) issue, the RAP functions on your car are controlled by the BCM
there may be relays in the circuits somewhere, someone with more experiance may chime with more info

Thanks Dave. I was actually thinking about the RAP but didn't know exactly what it was called. Hopefully someone will chime in with some experiance. Don't really know where to start looking.
