New wheels causing ABS and ASR to fail.
New wheels causing ABS and ASR to fail.
I put on some 2000 C5's(on my 99 Z28) with Bf Goodrich KDW's. 255x40x17's in front and 285x40x18's in back. I drive to wherever I was going and my brake light, ABS inop light, and ASR light all come on. I get to where I got to and shut it down. Start it back up and the lights stay off. Drive some more, they come back on. So basicly they clear after I turn the car off. And come back on whenever they get tripped. Anyone else go through this and how did you deal with it. Thanks in advance.

yes
You have 2 different size wheels on your car, 17's and 18's
Camaro's only come in one size.
When the car is turned off it's re-set, after driving some, the car is always reading the ABS sensors in the wheels which detect if one wheel is moving at a different speed which is causing it to send a warning since you have different size front and back.
The ASR is also tied in since it relies on the ABS for information and for engaging the traction control.
I dont know what most people do when they buy C5 wheels if they buy all the same size or if their is a fix to your problem, I'd check the wheel/tire section, maybe someone there has an answer.

Re: New wheels causing ABS and ASR to fail.
Just to clarify, its not the wheel diameter that affects the rotational speed, its the outside diameter of the tires. A 255/40-17 is too small for the front, because its only 25.0" diameter (vs. stock tire diameter of 25.65"). The 285/40-18 is wayyyyy too large for the rear. That's a 27.0" diameter tire. Its not only throwing your speedo off by 5%... it reduces performance like you reduced your numerical rear axle ratio by 5%.
So... 25" tires on the front, 27" tires on the back.... not a good combo. You need to look at a 255/45-17 for the front and a 285/35-18 for the back.
But.... I'm not sure that's your problem. The "BRAKE" light should not be affected by tire or wheel diameter. That light is telling you there is an unbalanced pressure between the front and rear braking circuits. That in itself may cause the ABS and TCS to turn off. Check for the cause of the "BRAKE" light first.

That's weird, I remember the first day I got my 17 inch Z06's. I have 275/40's and I remember the INOP light coming on for the fiirst time ever. It light up for a lil while that first day and when I drove it again...It never came back.
I was like huh? Very bizarre.
