Need to know how to remove all windshiled wiper plastic guards/mills

i got an edlebrock strut tower brace off summit that im installing... it has dual cross-rods and a 3rd center bracket that actually mounts it somewhere to the top of the firewall... the directions it came with say "lift up wiper arms and remove nut"

so i looked under where the wiper arms were before lifting... and i see something that looks like a plastic pop rivot... kinda? but not like a nut you can take off with a socket

can someone PLEASE tell me how to remove all those plastic wiper planels without breaking or damaging anything?

They are a push pin type keeper. You pull up on the pin in the middle and then you can remove the base that is left. When inserted, the pin expands the base to hold it in place (kinda like a wall anchor).

pull on the pin in the middle of the panel, or pull on the pin, from the middle of the pin?

In the middle of each fastener there is a pin with a flat head and some notches under it. That's what you pull on.

yeah...

but how???

without breaking something

its a little flimsy flathead plastic piece that is all but perfectly flush with the panel... i have no idea how to pull on it/ pry it down without breaking it and/or gouging the panel

Generally, you can get a really thin screwdriver blade under it, or you can use a small pick to pop it up far enough to grab it with something that won't damage it.

Since you will (I assume) be drilling holes so you can mount the STB to the cowl, you will probably need to remove the plastic panels completely, and that requires pulling the wiper arms off the shafts. That's probably what Edelbrock was referring to when they said "lift up wiper arms and remove nut". There's a cover over the nut that holds the wiper on. Pop the cover up, and take the nut off. Then, if the arm has never been off the shaft, you may need a "puller" to get it loose.

I have the LG Motorsports brace that bolts to the cowl overhang, and had to remove the plastic completely, at least on one side, to drill the holes. Once its installed, you can access the bolts and remove it simply by loosening a couple of the plastic cover pins near the bolts.

ok... ****

ok.

on the pass side. there are 2 bolts that are next to the strut tower nuts and studs... on the drivers side theres something similair... except they are torx heads.

i dropped one of those bolts... that i had to take out for the stb mounting brackets... it fell somewhere between the engine and the k-member... i've tried there is absolutly no hope of finding it/ getting it out... the bolt is one of two that goes thru some rubberish thing having something to do with the spring

can i drive around with just one of the those bolts in there? until i can get another one?

You will still have two studs and one bolt out of four total fasteners attached to the upper spring seat/a-arm mount. Should not be a problem with TEMPORARY LIGHT DUTY driving. Be sure the 3 that are still there are fully torqued to spec. And don't drop it too hard from any 3-ft wheelstands.....

My STB attached to the front edge of the sheetmetal that protrudes straight forward from the actual cowl.... the horizontal sheetmetal that the plastic cover rests on. I had to drill vertically through the sheetmetal, which means you can see both sides of the hole. If your Edelbrock bolts to the actual cowl, you'll have to be very careful of drilling holes toward the passenger compartment, but I doubt that it would bolt to the cowl in that way.
