I got a 97 trans am and im short on cash. Most the work i have done so far was cosmetic but i have no idea were to start with performance parts. Ive heard the basic programmer and intake thing but lately ive been looking at throttle bodies and intake manifolds. Can someone give me some advise on how to make my car faster, also its automatic.

 

A larger throttle body and a different intake manifold would be two virtualy worthless changes to a stock LT1. Start with:

-Cold air intake
-cat-back exhaust
-throttle body coolant bypass
-headers
-1.6X roller rockers

Since its an A4, a stall converter and 3.73 gears.

What do you mean by "basic programmer"? The only hand-held programmer for the LT1 is the Hypertech, and that is another worthless component. A mail-order tune of your PCM will net 10-15HP on a totally stock engine.

Keep in mind that as you increase HP, you need to upgrade the drivetrain and the suspension.
