is my engine misfiring?

i have a loose rod that i havent been able to get fixed yet. anyway i was driving today and felt a loud pop which made my car swerve just a little bit. at first i thought i ran over something, but then i continued hearing some pops every now and then. i figured that my cylinder with the loose rod might be misfiring but would a missfire cause my car to move like it did? or do i have something else wrong with my car? thanks.

A loose rod won't cause a misfire by itself, however, if that rod is "loose" due to the bolts backing out, I wouldn't be driving it. If those bolts let go completely, the engine could become a paperweight very quickly.

my question to you is why are you still driving it ? I guess it doesnt matter now since the damage is done, the bearings are probably wiped out and you most likely scored the crank.

well i have been driving it lightly because i am looking to get the engine overhauled anyway. i know it sounds dumb, also my mechanic told me that it wouldnt hurt to drive as long as i wasnt putting a lot of strain on it.
