my car keeps on dieing when i start it

it used to just happen in the mornings, it would hard to start, but now its everytime i start it it will sputter then die?? what do u guys think?? PLEASE dont be the opti any help is appreciated

The opti is a possibilty, but it sounds like you are losing fuel pressure. The most common culprit is the fuel pump not holding pressure. It is also possible that it could be a fuel pressure regulator, or even a fuel injector (although not likely, the car should stay running w/ a bad injector).. But your best bet is to check your fuel pressure at the rail and see if it holds. Connect the gauge, turn your ignition on, you don't even have to crank it up. The fuel psi should come up around 35-40. If it holds there then you're ok, if it drops down and wont hold a steady reading then you've got a bad check valve in your fuel pump...

If your fuel pressure is good then you need to consider spark issues next like the opti, coil, etc..
