Windows "fall" about 3" then roll down??

Howdy,

I bought my 97 Z in November and it was perfect, or so i thought. When i bought it the previous owner told me he "removed" the window rollers because it tore the tint up. I was like ok, no biggie. From the top of the seal they go about an inch and fall 2-3" then roll gently back down, it doesn't stumble going up at all.

Any idea's to fix this? I plan to go even darker on the tint, but if the window rollers really do rip the tint i don't want them on. The passenger window rolls down smooth as can be.

Thanks in Advance,
Dave

The falling problem is your regulator saying it's worn out. The window dosen't have any rollers that I know of, there are two brackets with a felt like stuff on it to hold it straight after it drops below the seal on the door panel.

I would pull the panel anncheck out the regulator.

If yours is bad I've got a 97 I'm parting out and could sell you the regulator with a good motor.

Does anyone know how i could check to see if i had a bad regulator motor or not? I'd really like to get this figured out before the cruisin season comes around in mid april.

Thanks,
Dave

If the motor was bad, the window would roll up slow or not at all.

If the regulator was breaking, it might freefall, catch, fall into the door, not roll up/down at all even though you press the button and hear the motor running, etc.

The regulator is simply a metal bracket that mounts into the glass with a plastic clip attached to it. The plastic clip holds onto a ball on the window motor cable. When the regulator breaks, the plastic usually breaks or snags and the ball gets pulled from it, resulting in no up/down motion from the window when you hit the button.

Some people have successfully used JB Weld to reattach the ball on the cable back to the plastic clip, but I'd just buy a new regulator.

Are you referring to the 3 nylon wheels on the regulator itself? If so how free spinning should these wheels be, mine are tight to the ball joint even after lubing. If someone has their regulator out or a new one handy can they tell me how easy the guide wheels should rotate.
Not trying to hijack s3gulit, this could be part of his window problem.

The F-body must be a different design than my Lexus
