Modifying advice

Hey guys, I have a completely stock lt1, in a 96 firebird, 6-speed. Only thing that isn't stock, it was bored .030 over to a 355. I'm trying to make an engine strong enough to handle a supercharger. Kind of a newbie to the whole mod process, could use some expertise on the subject. And ideas on where to start?

Re: Modifying advice

Block will need 4-bolt mains.

A lot of this depends on what HP level you are looking for.

I'm shooting for around 600rwhp, I was looking at lt4 ported heads, pacesetter long tube headers, true dual exhaust, do u know where is a good place to buy the forged internals? This is the first vehicle I'm modifyibg and don't know anywhere to look, thanks guys!

Re: Modifying advice

I don't think you need LT4 heads.... should be able to have your stock LT1 heads ported with forced induction. You're looking at 690-700HP at the flywheel. Ask these guys if you can get by with the LT1's:

Advanced Induction - LTx Performance Parts

If they say you need something bigger, they have aftermarket heads that they can port. If you bought a set of LT4's they would have to be ported as well.

If you haven't built an engine before, ask a reliable shop with LT1 experience about building the engine. They can guide you through the selection of components, based on their experience.

Who rebuilt your existing engine? What pistons did they use? You are going to want to drop the compression ratio into the range of 9.0 - 9.5:1 with forced induction.

I would also look for guidance on parts selection to the people who frequent our "Forced Induction" forum.... some really good experience there.

I don't know who did the previous work, it was done whenever I bought the car, I'm taking it to a machine shop tomorrow to see what they think, thanks!!
