MAF sensor

Hey guys. Wondering if you could help me check my maf sensor with my volt meter. Wondering if this surging is because of it.

Re: MAF sensor

You can only check it's output with a voltmeter than can measure the frequency of the signal output. The 94 service manual does not state the frequency limits that I can find. But the 98 one implies it goes from about 1200-1500HZ at idle to about 9000-10000HZ at max air flow.

Re: MAF sensor

This is the calibration table I pulled out of my stock 94 PCM program:

FREQ - GPS
0 - 0.00
1,488 - 2.45
1,616 - 2.88
1,744 - 3.34
2,640 - 8.41
3,024 - 11.60
3,664 - 18.60
4,432 - 30.97
5,968 - 69.92
7,504 - 136.88
9,040 - 239.52
10,576 - 391.88
11,216 - 471.51

You will typically see 6-10 GPS at stock idle (800 rpm in the M6 - probably a bit less with the lower idle speed of the A4. So look for something closer to 2,000-2,500 Hz. At WOT the stock engine seems to max out the MAF sensor at about 240-260 GPS. So look for 9,000-9,300 Hz. At least from what I remember of collecting this data 15 years ago.

Re: MAF sensor

You guys are good I wonder if there is a question you don't have the answer to. Looks like the maf is good along with the map that I asked about in another thread. Quick question do I need to keep posting new threads to check these sensors or can I ask them all in one thread. Like now I want to check my O2 sensors then coolant sensors and so on. Thanks guys.

Re: MAF sensor

Get a scanner so you can look at readings. Much simpler. Everyone needs a scanner, anyway. O2 readings change too fast to look at them with a meter. There is a table for temp sensor readings on my website.
