brake lights
So i had a friend tell me my brake lights were not working, so i checked them out and turns out the third brake light is working but the taillights are not working. I checked the hazards and they work i also checked the turn signals and they also work. the brake switch is good so i have no clue were to go from now does anybody have and ideas what it could be. aslo my car is a 96 camaro z28

I think the problem is with the Turn/Hazard switch assembly. One pole of that switch controls the brake light circuit. This can be confirmed by checking the voltage at the white wire and at the dark green (or yellow) wire of the turn/hazard switch. The voltage should normally be 12v at both when the brake pedal is pressed. No voltage at the dark green or yellow wires indicate a defective switch. The connector, C216, where this can be measured is at the base of the steering column. See the following link for a diagram.

thank you so much for the info i will try that this weekend. if there is no voltage where is the turn/hazard switch located at.

It is inside the steering column and is not a trivial replacement. Make sure it is defective before you start or have it done. I actually recommend letting a mechanic do that if you are not experienced, since it involves removing the airbag and steering wheel.
