Lt1 Steam lines

Apparently my Alternator destroyed the line of "steam that comes from the back of the left head" Currently the car have the Bypass because winter here is 79° and summer 109°. I was driving the car for around 12 miles and I was smelling Coolant I continue driving the car temperature climb to half qnd the back to normal but Nothing crazy. The belt start squeaking because the coolant. After opening the hood I found all the engine bay Full of coolant and the line broken "The one that connects to the radiator from back of the head" , It is possible that a lot of coolant came out of that "steam lines"?
Can I use a normal Fuel line to fix it? Or I need a high PSI line?

Re: Lt1 Steam lines

Recent topic. Factory part is no longer available. This shows one solution:

https://www.camaroz28.com/forums/lt1...-bolts-883470/

It's called a "steam line", but it flows coolant from the back of both heads, to avoid the "dead end" at the back of the heads, created by the LT1's reverse flow cooling system. A pinhole will pour coolant all over the engine.

I don't have any trouble with those bolts. Is the line that pass through the left valve cover to the radiator, Need 15 inches to reach the Radiator can I use a Fuel line?

Thanks

Re: Lt1 Steam lines

If you use hose it has to be able to handle 25 psi @ 300*F.

I know you don't have a problem with the banjo bolts. But the photos show the way people have replaced the line which is no longer available. If you plan to use a hose to replace the line, how do you plan to attach the hose?

Or did the alternator (or more specifically the alternator belt or pulley????) only damage the "hose" part of the system?

Unclear what is damaged. When you said "steam line", most people will think of the metal line, which is the part that wraps around the back of the head.

Might want to clarify the specific part you are talking about.

Me too I got thrown off thinking he was talking about the metal line behind the heads too Fred. I'm assuming the alternator cut the rubber part of the metal hose. My rubber part of the hose is a fuel one,n it's been great for mine so far.

He can probably get the hose from an auto parts store
