The scoop it doesn't matter, you can leave it in or take it out.
The other stuff yeah, the k&n goes through the factory tubing after(edited) the MAF.
K&N air sucks the air from right in front of your dr. side wheel. If you look underneath your car there is a triangular (kinda) plastic peice, take that off and that's where it goes.
Did I miss anything?

The FIPK has a sheet metal base. Its the big flat black piece under the filter in the picture above and it takes place of the entire lower airbox assembly. You will not be able to use your chin breathing CAI for this unless you want to cut up the base. This may cause problem because the FIPK base will be slightly higher than the stock lower airbox so the CAI may no longer fit. IMO, with the UltraZ hood you won't see a benefit from the SLP CAI and the FIPK. You might as well sell it & your lid to fund the FIPK.
As for performance there is nothing to debate. I went from an aftermarket lid to the FIPKII (only because it didn't cost me anything and I like the looks too.) and there is no performance diference. If you want it for looks, then go for it. Volant also has a nice looking set up, but I'm not sure it would be shaped right for your hood.

I like the looks too. Thats why I have one.
To answer the last of your question, how does the K&N get air? I take it you mean fresh air. You have an UltraZ. It'll get fresh air coming in from the opening.
On cars w/out this option, it uses the engine bay air the same as the stock intake set up. There is a larger surface area which makes it easier.
