just a question.

can i run a 96-97 ss hood on my 95 z28 with out hooking up the ram air kit? i have a k&n cold air intake.

There is no reason why you couldnt.It will just let fresh air in under the hood.Or block it off if you are worried about water.

I've been running that way for the last 4 years with no issues. The car rarely is driven in the rain so I can't speak for possible rain issues.

Why would rain be an issue? The stock SS hoods have baffles in them for water.

you're just gunna be creating more of a drag issue vs. cooling the engine if you leave it open and not block it off.

He stated he wasn't using the ram air section; my assumption (always gets you in trouble) is that the baffles are in the ram air section.

He said he won't be running the ram air kit aka the air box and intake. The baffles are in the hood, well the real SS hood at least.

That's correct. The hood has two baffles an upper and a lower, that help dirrect rain into under hood drain channels. They would still be there and work even without the air box & filter. This is for the OEM hoods only.
