insurance quastion

I am about to buy a 1998-2002 camaro, but I was wondering if any of you people know how big of the difference in insurance it is between the z28 and a v6 version. I looked up a quote online geico said it would be the same, but I doubt it. I am 18 in college so money is tight, gas I can handle but not insurance.

it can vary from company to company. ask whoever you have now, they will give you a quote. those online comp.(geico, etc) will give you a correct quote if you answer truthfully.

also by location. its usually more in urban areas with a z28 than a v6 in a rural zone.

18, male(guessing), sports car.... Probably around yearly 1200-2000 dollars for full coverage....

Depends on company, location, and driving record..... If your still in school see if you can put it on parents coverage and pay them.....

well my friend has a 2002 v6 firebird, he pays 2000 bucks a year and he has finished driving school. He said if he got a v8 then he would pay 4000 a year.

That sounds like a lotta BS to me . My 94Z w/full collision costs me ~$450 every 6 months with allstate, and I am 22...and a guy of course. Also, it is my own policy not on my parents, and i live in a suburban area, city is prolly about 10-15% higher for coverage.

It might not be BS - the guy in question may have a bad driving record and that means higher insurance. I insure my '02 Z28 and '98 Chev Ext Cab 4x4 for about $2500/year, with coverage on both.

To respond to the guy that started the thread - call your insurance company and ask them for a quote, but I'd say that as a rule of thumb an 8 is going to cost mroe to insure than a 6.

Re: insurance quEstion

The variations between state and companies can be huge, making it very possible that someone had to pay $4,000/year for insurance.... why call "BS" when its entirely possible? Try NJ... highest auto insurance rates in the nation. I've heard of people having to pay as much as $6,500/year.

Its pretty much a useless question to even ask on a forum like this, becasue we don't even know what state he is from (didn't bother to fill in "location" field), his driving record, urban vs. rural, etc.

Re: insurance quastion

My 97 v6 at age 16 for LIABILITY was $208 a month, then I had a $100 good student discount, so $108. When I bougth the z28, rates stayed the same, now nearing age 18 and rates are still $108/month liability.
