First remove the antenna mast, then take off the base by removing the black painted trim nut on top. Be carefull to use a rag on your channel lock plyers so you dont scuff it up. At that point it all pretty much falls apart. There might be one more screw down behind the spare tire fastening the antenna base to the car.

Re: how too

I think there are a couple bolts that hold the base to a bracket by the spare tire. Take a look... its pretty obvious when you see it. I took everything off but the part that fills the hole in the fender, then put a vacuum cap on the threaded rod, so it looks like the antenna is "down". Not a lot of wieght to be saved with the antenna, but removing the wiring too makes it worthwhile.

Re: how too

I've always wanted to get an electric retractable antenna.......I suppose all it would take is to remove it like above and find a source for power.
Do our radio's (97+) have a power antenna out lead?

If the 97 is the same as 99 yes. The wiring is pretty easy. There's a spot on the back of the radio you run one of the wires to, the other to a power supply (amp works great if you have the monsoon system), and then a ground wire.

Re: how too

This won't help you, but I'm dropping my car off at the body shop later this morning to have the antenna shaved (as well as the raptor hood installed and body and paint). I've been wanting to do that since I bought the car!
