how many relays in the starter circuit?
how many relays in the starter circuit?
I've been dealing with an intermittant no-crank situation with my '93 since I got the car, and it's been getting quite a bit worse lately. When I turn the key, I can hear a click, but no crank. If I cycle the key from run to start about 20 times, eventually it will crank, and fire right up. I've been paying more attention to it lately, and as I just turn past run, I can hear a click in the center of the dash area, and just before I get it fully to start, I hear a click in the passenger side kick panel area. I do have an Auto Page alarm system in it with starter kill, so I'm thinking one of those relays might be part of that. Auto Zone doesn't list a replacement starter relay, buy they do have an ~$20 relay under "relay - stater motor control".
All the connections are good to the starter (from the battery to the starter, battery to alternator, key to starter), and when it does finally catch, the engine fires right up, so I don't think the starter itself is bad. I'm thinking it might be the solenoid, and I've been thinking about switching to a Ford style external anyways. But I still want to check out the relays too.
That said - how many relays are in the circuit, and where are they?

Shoebox has the diagram for a 95.... might be similar to yours, but you never know with the 93's.

93s are essentially the same in operation (though there are some schematic differences). You need to see if you are getting 12v power to the purple wire on the starter when the key is in the START position.
