Hooking up ALDL cable energizes fuel pump

Hi,
I went to hook up SCAN9495 today to check ABS codes and with the ignition on when I'd plug the ALDL cable into the port, the fuel pump would run constantly. To induce it, I had to push a little to make sure the connector was seated. It only seemed to occur when pushing on the cable. I could relax pressure on the connector and the fuel pump would cut off.

That sounds like the cable is shorting the A and B terminals of the car's connector when you push it in. Shorting A to B puts the ECM into service mode and turns on a lot of things, including the fuel pump..

Thanks Gary,

I'll get under there and see if it's just me pushing too hard to seat the connector, or if any terminals might be loose/ shorted - or too close together. Freaked me out, when I turned the key I was like "That pump is taking an awful long time to prime" 😆, because it didn't cut off until I pulled the connector back a little bit.
