Ive got an AKM cable, but my laptop is a newer Dell and has the female 9 pin connector on the back, which is what the AKM cable has as well. So, I guess I need a 9 pin male to male connector and was wondering where everyone else(or anyone else got their connector from and how much.

You sure? You might be mistaking the monitor port for a serial port. I'd double check the number of pins on the port.

 

If it's blue it's the vga port - make sure. More than likely the laptop does not have a serial port - they are going the way of floppy drives. Sounds to me like you will need the USB adapter.

 

You guys are right. Its actually a 15 pin connector, so I need the USB to RS232 adapter.
