header coatings?

I am ordering Pacesetter LT headers and they are coated. After use and wear for so many miles are they going to be needed to be re-coated or not?

Re: header coatings?

Depends on the quality of the coatings - I'm assuming you are talking about a cera-metallic coating, like the ones from Jet Hot, Airborn, Paul Barry, etc.. I have a set of AS&M's that I bought used 5 years ago, so after 7 years of use, the coating it still doing what it is supposed to do - keeping the heat inside the primaries. There are some minor signs of rust around the flanges...... so you are probably good for at least 5 years with a decent coating. AS&M's are coated by HPC.

Re: header coatings?

Yea - pacesetters coated for $379 - uncoated is $279....so its a $100 coating -- prob not the best and what I've read supports this. However, a coating from LS1 speed is $279 - is it worth the price of the headers again? Probably not...but since they're cheap, probably. LS1 is only place by me I could think of with coatings, there may be somewhere near you that offers cheaper quality coatings.
