Hard clunking sound when accelerating

My 93 Z28 made a loud clunking noise today when I was leaving a stop light. It does it all the time now. If I slowly ease into the throttle it wont do it, but normal driving it does.

Any thoughts? I'm thinking tranny mount.

I'd say tranny mount also.

Yes, check the tranny mounts- the torque arm that controls rear axle wind-up under load (both acell and braking) attaches to the rear of the tranny- works, sort of, but a chintzy way to do it-

Broken trans mount. The noise you're hearing is the trans smacking the floorpan under load.

Could also be loose torque arm bolts at the rear end -- that happened to me.

The other possibility would be a broken torque arm bushing, or broken bushing bracket.

It was the tranny mount. The rear diff seal is ****ed too, leaking everywhere. They are going to top it off for me, but it looks like I'll be spending more money to get that fixed real soon. I'd do it myself if I had the resources to do so. Unfortunately, I do not

I personally had two issues with clunking sounds upon accelerating with my T/A over the years. One was collapsing/weak motor mounts and the other was the rubber in the balancer/crank pulley coming apart. Hope this helps!

Always hard to answer a question when there's no info about the specific vehicle.... but an Energy Suspension poly trans mount is $22 at Summit. If you have a V6 with the hydraulic mount, the cost will be different.

Why not add a "signature" with basid info about your car - year, model, engine, trans and any major mods? Makes it easier for people to answer your questions accurately.

same thing

similiar thing is happening to my 94 auto Z28. my tranny pan was caked in oil though. when I accelerate hard from a dead stop I get a grinding/clunking noise directly below the gear box.

when I jack the car up what am I suppose to be looking for? I want to try to diagnoise it myself before spending money to have someone tell me it's messed up. haha

the trans mount is a black piece of rubber that sits between the tranny and the crossmember
