I am going to change the gear oil in my differential soon, I got the synthetic gear oil, do I still need the friction additive from gm?

Yes, ya gotta add the limited slip additive. I put Castrol Limited Slip 80W90 in mine...the additive was already blended in the gear oil. I'm sure Auto Zone, Oreilly, or whoever ya deal with will have it, and that it complies with GM specs.

Go to the Auburn website, and download the installation manual for their cone-type limited slip differential. Read the "IMPORTANT LUBRICANT NOTE" on page 2 of the manual.
