Fuel pump trap door problems

Ok, I'm helping one of my buddies change out the fuel pump in his 87 Trans Am. His dad cut the hole for us, but the whole process isn't working out too well for us. The hole is bigger than the ones I've seen online, but we can't work it out. The metal lines won't let us pull the pump out and I'm not seeing how they disconnect. He just wants to cut them, is there any other way?

Besides dropping everything?

I have no idea what the setup for an '87 Trans Am is....

--because of that, I am unaware if the process is as effortless on an '87 since all articles I have seen are for 4th gens.

They follow the lines under the netal there should be clips there - maybe not, if you meant '97 there should be...I have zero idea about an '87 -- is this supposed to work for an '87? Why did you decide upon that method without finding a web site on it? You said it's a larger hole than the one's you've seen, well - don't those instructions help at all?

I doubt using a guide for a 4th gen when you have a 3rd gen would be much help.

That's why I was wondering if maybe he meant '97...seems highly unlikely that someone would pull up a 4th gen tech guide (especially one like that) and think that they can apply it to a 3rd gen.
