Not true. A lot of people would NEVER hack apart their car just to cut corners. I know I would never do it. Do it right. Like you said, dropping the tank isn't all THAT hard. Not worth hacking your car apart anyway.

Re: Fuel Gauge is busted

How would you consider that "cutting corners"?? IMO, it's a creative solution to make access to the fuel pump quicker and easier. I wouldn't see it being worth it for people who are performance enthusiasts, however, for those who like to tinker and modify, I can't see why you wouldn't want to make access to anything on your car easier. I mean, it'd be one thing if the modification compromised appearances for functionality, but really, who's gonna notice a fuel pump quick-access panel when it's hidden underneath carpet and insulation?

Because it is a possible safety issue. You are compromising the solid barrier between the gas tank and the passenger compartment. It might be important if you are ever in a wreck where the tank is ruptured.

Not that trap doors have never been used on some cars, because they have. However, GM did not design theirs that way. I admit that cutting the hole is very tempting vs. the hassle of dropping the tank.

[you kinda dug up an old post, eh?]
