Found source of hatch rattle!!!

Well I have been trying to fid the source of my hatch rattle for a while now, with no luck. I have tried adjusting the rubber stops, adjusting my latch and mechanism, wrapping electrical tape around my latch, and tightening my spoiler, none of it worked. Tonight, I pulled my spoiler off, its a Trans Am btw, and when I shut the hatch, it was rattle free. I noticed the little "rubber bushing" deals on the screws were pretty well shot, so I made some of my own, bolted the spoiler back on, and the rattle was a lot less noticeable. I am thinking about taking it back off, and putting dynamat or something like that on the surface where the spoiler mounts to the hatch. I am sure dynamat will be too thick, so any body alse got a suggestion on what could possibly work? On my dad's 82 Trans Am, there is some plastic pieces that mount on the spoiler where it bolts to the hatch to provide cushion to keep it from rattling, is there supposed to be on the 4th gen T/A's? Sorry for the lengthy post.

Good post, I will have to check that out on my car. I have had a rattle back there ever since I got the car and since I replaced pretty much the entire rear suspension, I think it is safe to say that isn't the problem.

Yeah when I shut it with my spoiler off, I was amazed at how quiet it was

Yeah, to get an idea of what I used as a bushing thing, you know the rubber pieces that are supposed to "hide" the hatch strut bolts where they mount to the body. Well I have a parts car laying here so I cut them off, and then cut little 1 inch squares with a slit in the middle for it to fit over the bolt. I still hear it a little when I close the hatch, but it was almost silent when I was driving tonight, and I live on some bumpy roads. I hope this helps a lot of people out. I know the rattling hatch drives me CRAZY.
