Fans dont come on when temp rises?

But they come on when i turn on the AC or the SES light comes on? If my car idles a long time my temp will crawl up and one time i was in a slow drive thru and my temp almost hit the red and the fans never came on so i had to turn the ac on so the fans would come on. I am thinking the previous owner rewired the fans because theres an accessory near my battery with a fuse and when i pull the fuse my fans dont work. is there another wire that triggers the fan to come on when it heats up? where can i get the stock fan wiring diagrams? Also is it bad for the fans to run while your going 70mph? due to the ses light? thanks! my car is a 94 camaro z28

I don't know what is causing the problem but I bet putting in a Jet fan switch will fix it.

Shoebox has the fan wiring diagrams. Your 94 can be either a fan #1/fan #2 setup (early 1994) or a low speed/high speed setup (late 1994). Both systems are shown in the wiring diagrams. Look at sheet #5 and #6:

http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech2.html#1995_pcm_wiring

The fans are turned on and off by the PCM. It needs an accurate temp reading from the coolant temp sensor in the water pump housing. Stock programming turns the first fan (or low speed) on at 226*F and the second fan (or high speed) on at 235*F. You need a scanner to tell you if the coolant temp sensor is working correctly. Don't confuse the sensor for the PCM with the one in the driver's side head for the dash gauge.

Test it before you replace it. No sense spending money on parts that may be fine.
