e-brake

the emergency brake on my firebird is non existant. when i pull the handle it does not feel like it does any thing. it definately does not hold the car still(m6). i'm not sure if it is in the handle mechanism itself or what. anybody had the same problem? how do i fix this. thanks

Re: e-brake

Have you checked to see if the cable is broke under the car?

Re: e-brake

You probably broke the short cable up front. GM ones cost a left nut, so I went with a Napa replacement.

Read the second response!!
The auto, not going into park, could be a stretched cable or just out of adjustment.
Remove the cable end from the trans. manually move the trans. shifter braket into park then move the shifter selector into park. Look and see how the cable end and trans braket line up at the trans.

Ok underneath the car in the tunnel by the tail of the tranny there is your single cable from the handle going into a splitter (goes from one into two cables). Mine broke there. Go to a junk yard and rip that out. It will cost you a few bucks.
