Duplicolor High Temp Paint...on Headers?
Duplicolor High Temp Paint...on Headers?
Would i be able to do this and somewhat keep the temp in my engine bay down? i have the edelbrock TES headers? iam going to be getting a new engine soon and want to be able to reuse my headers and keep the temp down a bit...especially since i am going to lower my car a bit as well...and i like my exhaust setup...until i get the yearning for true duals....:P
Any opinions?
thanks.

Re: Duplicolor High Temp Paint...on Headers?
My experience with rattle can paint is- it sucks. Falls off and definitely doesn't retain heat. Ceramic coating will help the heat situation, but is $$$. A couple years ago I discovered POR-20 silver header paint. Made by the POR-15 rust paint people. Anyway, it's got ceramic in the paint, and you brush it on. First time you stir the can, you know it's a quality product- probably 50% solids. It seems to help heat a little, but it's the only header paint that sticks over time. I actually paint everything I install, mufflers, tailpipes, etc. One little can will do 2 cars, headers to tips. Look up www.prp-porstore.com for info Good luck
Re: Duplicolor High Temp Paint...on Headers?
The ceramic coating reduce under hood heat MAINLY because the coating is applied also to the inside of the headers. That coating reflects the heat back into the exhaust gasses. An external coating has limited value for "insulating".... mostly for looks, rust prevention.
DupliColor claims:
I doubt it would hold up to continuous header tube metal temps. The Eastwood Company sells what they claim is a 1,000degF header paint.
DupliColor claims:
Resists oil, gas, grease, rust, salt, humidity, and solvents — and temperatures up to 1200°F, intermittently.

OK. Thanks guys. I was just wondering because my headers are kinda rusty. i was gonna sandblast em and apply some of that paint, but i may just get some coated long tubes. Thanks!
