Interested in adjust steering rack preload.

I want to do the steering rack preload and see the guide on shoebox's site. I am not having trouble with steering or anything i just thought it be nice to get the steering a little tighter if its possible from that because im gonna be getting a new aftermarket swaybar soon.

I however dont know if i should even bother if i dont have problems.
I don't uinderstand the schematic. IT isn't clear what iloosen and what i tighten . Can anyone better explain where the two things are?

Re: Interested in adjust steering rack preload.

You loosen the larger outer "jam nut" (I didn't have a socket that big so I used a large set of channel locks), then you're going to tighen the inner hex nut, then retighten the jam nut. When I performed this procedure, the steering wouldn't return to center on it's own and I only slightly moved the center nut.

Based on your post, I would leave it alone. It is only necessary if you have a need.

Re: Interested in adjust steering rack preload.

I attempted it but ijust dont understand what i turn. Theres a huge thing that doesnt look like a bolt that i think is the lock nut and then a smaller bolt that i think is the adjuster. I didnt want to mess with it until i asked you guys.

I was wondering if i could do this since my steering wheel is offset:
When you loosen the adjustor, does it disconnect the steering gears from the wheel allowing you to offset the steering wheel? MY steering wheel is offset and i thought this may work to put it in its correct spot.

Re: Interested in adjust steering rack preload.

It does not correct steering wheel offset. That is done with tie rod adjustment.
