Drive vs OverDrive

Drive vs OverDrive
Is there any difference in the way the car shifts between the two besides the fact OverDrive opens up 4th gear in all models of Camaro's? (yes this means 3.4's and 3.8's too...)
Does the (3) on the Firebird basicly stand for Drive like on the Camaro? If not, whats the difference between OverDrive and 3?

Re: Drive vs OverDrive
All I can refer to is what I have seen from 1995 LT1 programming. There is very little difference between the manually shifting shift tables and the normal shift tables (when in OD). There are differences are at throttle angles of 31.3% and less, so there is no WOT upshifting shifting difference. Though, it will let you downshift out of OD to 3rd at a slightly lower speed than if you let it kick down by itself.
D=3rd gear
D=3rd gear

Re: Drive vs OverDrive
3rd gear in a Pontiac is still the same as "D"rive in a Chevy......D = 3rd gear.
"D"rive in a Pontiac = 4th gear or Over-Drive (D) in a Chevy.
They're all the same 4-speed 4L60E tranny, it's just a different way of labeling each gear.
