Door skin splitting....

My door skin is coming apart from the rest of the door and its starting to look bad. What can I do to fix this? Its separating from the from the front of the door by fender. I have to push in on it to open the door or it pops out and the door wont open all the way.

Re: Door skin splitting....

First see if it is under recall and might be fixed for free.

If it's not...

remove the door. Be carefull it is heavy and it might be a good idea to have a buddy help. Go to a Lowe's or Home Depot and buy some fiberglass resin, a brush and some clamps. Mix up the polyester fiberglass resin and use a brush to coat the seperated area. Use a towel over the clamp so you dont scratch the paint and clamp it up. Let it set overnight. reinstall the door.

I've had the drivers door off my car. It's about a 7 out of 10 for difficulty. Getting the plug on and off the window motor is the hardest part. Glueing it up is the easy part.

Re: Door skin splitting....

Is there a website for seeing recalls? Getting it fixed for free would rule! But if not I need to replace the window motor anyway so I guess thats as good a time as any to do it.

removing the window motor would definitely make getting that stupid plug on easier. Look at Rob's website for easy instruction to replace the motor. It only takes a few minutes when you do it the easy way. I've replaced both of mine and it was a snap. It took me longer to go buy the motors than it did to install them.
