Door lock gremlins

Has any one had a problem with there door locks going nutz? While driving down the road my door locks go crazy like I am pushing the lock button over and over again. It almost seemed that they would get more crazy when I would hit a bump. I pulled over and shut the car off and when I started it back up the locks did not go crazy. This is the second time its happend. I have a 2000 and still have not had a chance to get the manuals for the car. Anybody experianced this yet??

Do they lock and unlock, or just lock over and over? You might want to try and disconnect the switches and see if that makes it stop. Maybe the switches are bad and the bumps in the road are causing them to make contact?

Do the newer cars like yours automatically lock their doors themselves after you put the car in gear or start driving? If so, then that system may be faulty somehow.

That happened to me with my '88, one day I was standing outside the car and it locked with the keys in it. It unlocked itself after a few minutes. After that they would randomly lock and unlock while I was driving. I think the problem was a relay down in the kick panel on the drivers side. Don't leave your keys in there!

Re: Door lock gremlins

Well its just locking over and over again. It is possible that the switch is going bad but I did not want to buy switches and find out it was some thing else. Well I know in 2000 they don't, I am not sure about 01s or 02s. I don't think so though. I was warming up the car and sure enough the damn thing locked me out. I had spare keys in my house so I did not get totaly screwed. I guess I could check the relay and the switches. Does any one know if these are dealer only and are they expensive?? The only problem with trouble shooting is that it doesn't always happen. I am going to go yank the switch in the drivers door and look to see if there is any burn marks for arcing or for loose wires or contacts.

Does any one know if a door from a 2000 is any different from other 4th gens?? I still have my manuals from my 94 Z. I think I am going to look in those to see if I can figure out any thing.

Thanks for the ideas!!
