Door hinge repacemnt

Is it possible to replace the lower door hinge on a 1997 Z28 by removing the front fender? I have a replacement hinge and will have to install it by myself. My though was to remove the fender to gain access to the hinge bolts, then remove and replace the hinge with the door in the closed position. Has anyone done this? Thanks.

Re: Door hinge repacemnt

I doubt you will have room to get behind the front of the door with that method. It really isn't hard to replace a single hinge when the door is open although you may need some "bent" or special end wrenches. Just support it with something under the rear end of the door. I have even removed the entire door by myself with some creative support methods using rope and pulleys attached to the carport ceiling. If it is the lower hinge you want to replace, you will need a spring compressor. The ones that sell for 10-13 bucks work ok.
