Re: Does fuel eat silicone?

some fuels eat some silicon compounds, not all fuels eat all silicons. vague but without knowing what type of sealant.

IMO, Best thing for fuel leaks is teflon tape, or a liquid teflon paste.

Re: Does fuel eat silicone?

I sealed up the fuel tank sending unit gasket on the top of an old behind the seat ford truck fuel tank with high temp rtv once. Bad, bad mistake. The fuel ate the rtv into tiny pieces that plugged two inline fuel filters and the carb and the truck wouldn't go more than about three miles before it started acting like it was out of gas. Major PITA to clean it out, then I had to clean it about once a week for maybe two months afterward to get it acting right again.

More or less, don't use rtv. Some kinds might be ok, but I wouldn't try it again.

RTV can mess with the O2 sensors as well.
