if you're going to, definatly wire up a kill switch. I had one on my 94 z, they wired it in when they installed the alarm. They removed the cig lighter and put it there. It worked out pretty good.

Will the car start if you supply the pwr? If the car doesn't start have you checked fuses, and fusible links?

Not a good thing to do on a 96'. Most likely you have anti-theft which is notorious for killing the ignition/starting systems when the key/cylinder, and anti-theft module don't communicate properly.
I would:
1.) Use a remote starter switch to crank it, if it starts the problem is in the wiring, and or fusible links ...etc between the starter and the ignition switch.
2.) if the car just cranks then, if you don't have quick access to the Throttle body pour a primer shot of gasoline through any hose connected to the intake, you may have to do this more than once, if it still doesn't start I'd suspect the anti-theft module is killing the starter, and injectors.

Given this info, my guess is that the problem is the ignition switch located down low on the steering column. Try jumping the "start" wire on the switch and see if it cranks. If it does, replace the switch.

A remote start will not start the car unless you have bypassed the anti theft system. ie, the key must be present in the ignition, or a resistor of the exact same resistance in your key can be wire in the car.
