Deleting Bumper support Questions...
My front supports will be coming out when I pull the radiator support to take out my nonfunctional ac condenser, along w/the fog light brackets (previous owner removed the fog lights), and a few other things, like my cracked/ruined washer fluid reservoir.
I would think as long as the bracket that supports the bumper cover itself is in place (or an aftermarket replacement), that it would hang just fine w/out the cushion.
BTW Injuneer, are all the firebird/TA's using that styrofoam-type bumper support? I know my '94 did but was just curious if they all did.

why would you take the bumper support off and not the bumper? the part that bolts to the fram horns......
the other pc. is 2 pounds at the most........buy a k-member instead, I consider taking that off hack work.
you could lighten the bumper for a drag car or something but I won't take it out again

Haven't done anything just yet, but I figured while I was already in/up in there I may as well clear out everything at the same time.
The '93 is my low-buck car, so to speak, the k-member is going in my '95 before even considering it for the '93. I do see your point though, I was thinking it was a little heavier than that, may not be worth the time/effort at all. Thanks.

I've seen a picture of a de-bumpered third-gen Camaro that was running at speed on the top-end of a road course, and the wind resistance is enough to squash the nose out of shape, if you choose to run without the bumper support.
If you remove the front bumper support, you will experience front-end deformation when taking it to the track. I'd suggest replacing the bumper support with a custom one that you TIG weld out of aluminum. It could be fitted to the contour of your front-end, yet only weigh a few pounds.

I'm completely hooked on weight reduction, as some may know.. I've taken about 300 lbs off the car so far.. I want to ditch my sub box next. I want this car to appear completely stock, but retain some creature comforts.
I have to fix my front end as my winter project, I was thinking about deleting my bumper supports..
How much does this effect the impact absorption of the front and rear? I'd imagine a lot. Slow speed would crunch the bumper pretty good, but what about a higher speed crash? More frame/sub frame damage?

I deleted mine and then i bumped a car at the track and believe me the bumper suport would have taken all the damage pretty good, now i had to order a new hood, bumper cover, headlamp header, and clips, and saving just 30 punds i think not recomendable for a street car......my crash was about 30mph i dont even wanna know waht would hapen on a 60mph crash, i belive even the engine gets hurt with the k member and posible chasis streched.....
I have taken off the front bumper so far and I plan to delete the support and use stirafoam and a few coat hangers or something. The stirafoam I can buy in a big brick and cut and shave it to hold the shape of the bumper good I think.
I deleted not only the plastic pad, I also removed the frame. thats how it comes to weight reduction , couse the plastic pad weights only like 5 punds, the whole bumper weights around 30, 35 punds I think,,,,,
