decceleration probelm

recently i noticed that when my is going 70 mph down a road and then take my foot off the gas it starts out deccelerating at a normal speed. few secs pass and there is a hesitation in what think is the car down shifting (automatic). does anyone know if this is normal or what.

car background: 94 formula ,stock automatic transmission with a shift kit

Re: decceleration probelm

Sounds normal i think. Just the tranny downshifting to keep the revs up.

If its taking longer and longer, could be time to recondition that tranny. Fluid and filter change coudnt hurt.

Re: decceleration probelm

yeah the downshift process should be almost instantaneous. Revs should go up a bit and you should feel like your decelerating faster.

Re: decceleration probelm

Possible it the decelleration fuel cut. When you lift off the throttle, the PCM cuts off the injectors for emissions. It keeps them off until the engine reaches maybe 1300-1500rpm, and turns them back on again. You might feel a slight change in the motion of the car when the injectors come back on. I think its more pronounced in the M6's though, as far as feeling it.
