Custom Y pipe

Well, I'll probably be getting some AS&M midlength headers for a 94-95 LT1. I've also got a Borla Catback for 96-97 LT1s.

I obviously need something that'll connect the 2.

Do the headers have O2 bungs in them? Or is it the Y pipe that's supposed to have the O2 bungs. Anyone know where I can get a Y pipe that'll work? (Used would be nice)

If I can't find one, and need to get a Y pipe made, will I need to get the shop to put O2 bungs in?

Confused and wanting to get this motor breathing well.

Thanks!

Re: Custom Y pipe

the headers don't come with a Ypipe? they should.

not sure whre the bungs are located on those headers, but would be they are in the header collector.

all you need to connect a late model LT1 exhuast to an early model is the Spipe. because the early models the cat is located farther forward and towards the passenger side. SLP use to sell the piece as a kit.

Re: Custom Y pipe

Thanks for the reply. The headers don't come with a Y pipe as I am buying them used, and the previous owner junked em as they were not in good shape (The exhaust shop that made em didn't do a good job.)

Labor is usually quite expensive up here, so does anyone know where I can find an S pipe and a Y pipe that'll fit these headers? (AS&M mids)

Thanks.

Re: Custom Y pipe

As sold by AS&M, the headers include the Y-pipe. Appears the previous owner scrapped it and made a new one.

I also bought a used set of AS&M's that had previoulsy been fitted to a dual-cat car. They had extensions on each header, so they came straight back, like long tubes. I had a custom Y-pipe made, with dual 3" cats in it. The system came off a 30th SS convertible making about 850HP.

I'm pretty sure the O2 bungs are on the Y-pipe, because I don't think mine are located on the headers. You can see the passenger side on the extension... not sure why I can't remember where the driver's side is, but I think its on the extension near the oil filter.

[EDIT] Found a photo.... drivers side O2 is not on the header, but on the fab'd extension.
