Cranking Engine On Stand

Cranking Engine On Stand
I have my LT4 pulled and on the stand. I want to compression test all the cylinders just to test for consistency. I hooked the positive and negative terminals of the battery straight to the starter. I then hooked the remote start switch to the two posts on the starter. When I did so, the wire wire on the remote starter switch attached to the positive post on the starter began to heat up. I had to disconnect it quickly. It also didn't crank the motor at all.
Does anyone know how to wire a remote start switch for use on a stand?

Re: Cranking Engine On Stand
You need +12v from battery to main starter terminal
Ground from starter/block back to battery
12v to your remote switch and the other end goes to the solenoid pin on the starter.

I thought I replied. Thank you Mitch. Yeah, I had the ground on the wrong spot...but also the trigger apparently went bad! Thank you for the help!
