Coolant passage question

Coolant temp sensor

this is a 97 lt1 out of a firebird with a t56. Im swapping into a 83 RX-7. I seen a video somewhere that this plug in the passenger side head between cylinders 6-8 is a coolant passage that i can use for a coolant temp sensor gauge. Hoping for someone to confirm this. Also sorry if this is a topic thats alread been brought up, i did some research but couldnt find much else other then the video i seen. Thanks in advance

Re: Coolant passage question

That location works for a coolant temp sensor.

The stock location for the gauge coolant temp sensor is in the driver side head, between #1 and #3. Since the exact same head is used on both banks of the engine, when the head is on the passenger side, the hole ends up between #6 and #8, and they put that plug in it.

The coolant temp sensor that feeds the PCM is located in the lower part of the water pump housing.

Stock setup, courtesy of Shoebox. If you haven’t been to the Shoebox site, it is the best resource on the internet for information on the LT1 engine.
